The beginning of something has a particular color.
Not the middle, which is usually grey with effort. Not the end, which is often a deeper and more complicated hue. But the beginning — the moment just before full color arrives — is pale and warm and slightly uncertain, the way the sky is pink before the sun has fully committed to rising.
That is the color of strawberry quartz.
Each bead in this necklace is a small world of its own. The larger strawberry quartz sphere at the center holds within it a visible pattern of red inclusions — hematite and iron oxide, trapped inside the quartz during crystallization, creating a warm coral-red flush beneath the translucent surface. No two spheres have the same pattern. The inclusions move through the stone the way feelings move through a quiet person: not always visible, but always present.
The surrounding beads are faceted crystal — clear and light-catching — so the strawberry quartz sphere at the center reads like the color point in an otherwise transparent statement. Between the crystal beads and the center stone, small freshwater pearls offer interruptions of softness: white, organic, slightly irregular in the way that real pearls always are.
Strawberry quartz is a variety of quartz that forms when hematite or lepidocrocite inclusions grow inside the crystal as it develops. The iron that creates the pink-to-red color is the same iron that makes blood red — there is something in this stone that is genuinely close to the living, warm, animal parts of existence.
It is, among crystals, one of the most openly joyful. It does not carry the gravity of amethyst or the vastness of clear quartz. It carries something simpler and more immediate: the feeling of noticing something beautiful and being glad that you noticed.
